Edmund and the Childe were swapped at birth. Now Edmund lives in secret as a changeling in the World Above, with fae powers that make him different from everyone else—even his unwitting parents and older sister, Alexis. The Childe lives among the fae in the World Below, where being human makes him an oddity at the royal palace, and where his only friend is a wax golem named Whick.

But when the cruel sorceress Hawthorne takes the throne, the Childe and Edmund realise that the fate of both worlds may be in their hands—even if they’re not sure which world they belong to.

‘Estranged’ is a delightful middle grade story that follows a fae and a human boy who were swapped at birth and raised in each others lives. I read this one back in April as part of the O.W.L.S readathon.

So it’s been a hot minute, since it has been so long since I actually read that book I am going to do something a little bit different with my review.

I am going to start with 3 things I loved about the book!

  1. The art style is different than most graphic novels I’ve read and I found that it really enhanced the story.
  2. I absolutely love both the boys, It was interesting seeing them both struggle with different aspects of being switched. It is really interesting to read.
  3. I enjoyed the exploration of the World Below and the way it was depicted in the art work.

Thinks I thought could be improved

  1. I think we needed a bit more back story for all the characters. I didn’t feel like I was as invested in the characters as I wanted to be.
  2. I would love to learn more about the World Below. This may be covered in the sequel though.
