2017: Taking Advantage of a Fresh Start

Some must haves for 2017 and progress in my career. Work computer; digital and paper calendar; access to the building.

This weeks post is taking on some more of the January vibes (lets just ignore the fact that is practically February) I thought I would post again about some of the goals I have made for myself this year and explain how I intend to reach those goals.

Of course my goals are around saving money (No spend 2017 – last weeks post) and around organisation as well as my health and fitness both physical and mental. For the first time in… ever really, i am looking at these perpetual “goals” from a different point of view. I am finally seeing them as an ongoing process instead of an end result i am desperate to reach to be ‘happy’

This year a shift has really happened for me. I’m attributing this to getting my first ‘legit’ job (by legit I mean a 9-5 full time job) as well as an excellent psychologist and a whole heap of self help books (audible is so handy for this). All this is allowing 2017 to really be a clean slate for me. A fresh start.

Ok, so the goals:

* Eat a healthier more balanced diet
* Work out… at all
* Get your shit together!

Thats pretty much it.

I plan on working on all these things in conjunction with working (fingers crossed) full time. Heres the plan.

Firstly I stopped restricting myself to ‘never eating this or that’ to allowing myself these things on the weekend. My vice is mostly a nice medley of chocolate and popcorn while I curl up with my boyfriend at night to watch a movie. I have followed this ‘limit’ with an “explanation to myself” being that i need to eat well to maintain energy throughout the day and to avoid getting sick which will prevent my from working. Pretty much eating well is going to help me progress in my career (finally)

Second I gathered as many people as i can (ok so like 2) to work out with me. By this I mostly mean I’ve asked my boyfriend to workout with me so I don’t irrationally (don’t worry I know) freak out about sharks behind me in the swimming pool. I have also decided to give up on the running – my body just is not meant to run-  and go back to a sport that my body is accustomed to and that takes the weight of my joints (which kinda struggle) and hit the swimming pool instead. Along with this I am also working on my posture, completing a yoga flow that is aimed at assisting with posture as many days a week as I can. With all this I am also giving myself a chance to rest. At least one day on the weekends and one during the week (mostly dependant on work).

Third I am taking a different approach when it comes to  planning. Last year I tried planning using sticker kits and an Erin Condren planner. As gorgeous as the spreads turned out, the method just wasn’t for me. I wasn’t able to commit time to using a kit and filling it all out and when all you do is work and watch Netflix your spreads turn out kind of boring.

Alternatively for 2017 I have decided to combine 2 methods to keep my shit together. First I have the traditional diary with a week per 2 page spread. For this i have chosen the Lorna Jane planner. Its adorable and has plenty of space to write along with some inspirational quotes (which never hurt.) Secondly i am adopting a bullet journal style note book. This includes different pages that keep different lists that i want to track or may need throughout the year.

Currently I am tracking:

  • Goals for 2017
  • Items I may want to purchase (kind of contradicts no spend but good for if mum asks what i want for my birthday)
  • Book log
  • Extra work days i need to attend
  • Recipes i want to try
  • Excersise tracker
  • Daily gratitude Log
  • A list of items its ok to replace during no spend
  • a list of things i need to buy for moving out (towels and the like)
  • blog posts and decal ideas
  • order tracker for the Harper Grae store
  • Harper Grae blog post tracker

… and many, many more to come.

This style of planning helps me to organise my thoughts into the right places so they don’t all end up muddled on one page. That in turn helps keep my mind a little less cluttered and able to focus on what i need to get done each moment of each day.

With all the work I am putting into 2017 I am going to try and keep a positive mindset towards myself and what I achieve. The goal of these changes and working hard on improving myself is ultimately one thing…

All these small actions are going to help me to become the most productive and positive version of myself that I can.

Fingers crossed it works!

Good luck to anyone working on their goals and any other form of self improvement and self positivity.
